Civil Engineering is rightly considered the most versatile amongst all engineering branches. It is the branch with a lot of diversity right from Construction, Geotechnical Sciences to Structural Engineering, Environmental Sciences to Hydraulics, and Transportation to Hydrology. Civil Engineering can be considered as the single largest core engineering branch. The department’s vision is to give an exposure to budding civil technocrats to various challenges in the profession. Subjects taught include Geotechnical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Hydraulic Engineering, Hydrology, Geographic Information System (GIS) and Global Positioning System, Design of Structures, Environmental Engineering, Solid Mechanics and Transportation Engineering. The department also handles consultancy works and projects.
Our department is committed to provide students with a strong, broad based fundamental engineering education and prepare the students for a career in the industry, teaching and national laboratories.
We also plan to develop entrepreneurial skills in students so that they would drive the spirit of growth of our economy and would be able to generate employment opportunities for other qualified and skilled people.
Our vision is to develop constructive thinking and analytical capabilities of every student of CIVIL Department.
Industries in which Civil Engineers can make career
For testing structural materials primarily Construction Materials Testing (CMT) involves and to build new projects from the ground up materials, materials used and its components used to construct new additions.
To the enhancement of the environment and its projection involves planning, design, construction and operation of equipment, systems and structures this comes under Environmental Engineering. In this laboratory water and waste water collection, treatment and disposal to ensure sanitary living conditions for the public, in recent times, its scope has grown abundantly covering additionally aspects of air pollution control, waste water treatment/water pollution control, hazardous waste management, and solid waste management.
The objectives of the experiments
Geo informatics is the science and the technology which develops and uses information science, used term which encompasses geo informatics, but geomantic focuses more so on surveying.
Students, who are pursuing their degree use the laboratory as an integral part of their surveying coursework and obtain any topographic information that can help their capstone design projects, such as highway design and land development.
The laboratory gives a much better understanding of the behavior of different structures when loaded with various kinds of loading conditions. Evaluation of internal forces, moments and corresponding stresses in structures through problem-solving sessions and laboratory activities are done.
The study of transportation engineering lab enables the students in integrating laboratory work into the course learning versus. For planning, functional design, operation and management of facilities for any mode of transportation in order to provide safe, efficient, rapid, comfortable, convenient, economical, and environmentally compatible movement of people and goods this technology is applied.
Geotechnical engineering is related to the performance of soil mechanics, including their subsurface conditions, determination of the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties that will influence the project under consideration, and the assessment of the risks that may be created by conditions of the site.
Computer-aided design (CAD) is a computer technology that designs a product and documents the design's process or CAD provides a convenient mean to create designs for almost every engineering discipline
The concrete technology lab such as concrete, cement, tiles etc is used to train by students to carry out tests on common construction materials. Engineering properties in terms of strength, strain, fatigue, creep, elasticity, durability, and workability to evaluate all test is conducted.
