BACHELOR OF PHARMACY (B.PHARMA*)

Pharmacy is one of the popular field among the students. Education in pharmacy varies from one country to another. In India, the academic courses in the field of pharmacy starts from diploma level to doctoral level.

Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) is an undergraduate degree course in the field of Pharmacy education. The students those are interested in the medical field (except to become a doctor) can choose this course after the completion of class 12th (PCM/B). After the completion of this degree, the students can practice as a Pharmacist. Pharmacists can work in a range of industries related to the prescription, manufacture & provision of medicines.

Pharmacists are the experts and health professionals who have done their studies in medicines. They can use their knowledge of medicines for the benefit of patients.

The Pharmacy Courses are approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) & Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).

Courses & Duration

  • Undergraduate Courses: Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) – 4 years
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) Lateral Entry – 3 years

Eligibility Criteria

It is the bachelor’s degree in pharmacy that can be taken after passing 12th/intermediate examination. For this course, candidates must pass 10+2 with Physics and Chemistry as a compulsory subjects along with one of the Mathematics / Computer Science / Biotechnology / Biology subjects and must obtained 45% marks(for general candidate) and 40 % (for SC/ST candidate). in qualifying examination. Minimum 17 years of age.

Note: D.Pharm (Diploma of Pharmacy) holders are eligible for admission into B.Pharm (lateral entry).

Intake: – 60 seats in B.Pharm

Admission Procedure

From counselling conducted by UPSEE - Candidates shortlisted based on their entrance examination rank called for the counselling.

Direct Admission

  • Qualifying Exam: Candidate must have passed 12th from UP Board or equivalent exam from any recognized board.
  • Subjects: Candidates must pass 10+2 with Physics and Chemistry as a compulsory subjects along with one of the Mathematics / Computer Science / Biotechnology / Biology subjects.
  • Minimum Marks: Candidates must pass the above exam with minimum 45% (for general candidate) and 40 % (for SC/ST candidate).

After completing your studies, you can easily find jobs in pharmaceutical industries, government departments, colleges and universities, hospitals, investigation and research institute etc.

Pharmacists can practice in community pharmacies, hospitals, clinics, extended care facilities, psychiatric hospitals, and regulatory agencies. Sales & Marketing job sector also hires maximum number of pharmacy graduates. One can also work in retail stores of medicines. After registering with the state Pharmacy Council, you can open chemist/drug shop and sell medicines as per doctor’s prescription.

There is an urgent need to initiate an academic exercise aimed at attaining revamping of curriculum, keeping in pace with current and emerging trends in the field of pharmacy.
